Teen Patti is quick to learn and easy to misread. Most expensive mistakes at the table are not about strategy at all — they come from a player not being sure whether a flush beats a run, or folding a hand that would have won the showdown. This guide sets out the six Teen Patti hands in order, shows how ties are settled, and gives the true odds of being dealt each one, so that when you take a seat on Dhani Win the cards in front of you are never a puzzle.
For the game overview — tables, variants and how a round flows — see the Teen Patti page. This article is purely about reading hands.
The Six Hands, Strongest First
Each player gets three cards from a standard 52-card deck. There are 22,100 possible three-card hands, and they fall into six categories. The rarer the category, the higher it ranks — with one famous twist explained below.
| # | Hand | Example | Ways to be dealt | Chance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Trail (Set / Trio) Three cards of the same rank. | A♠ A♥ A♦ | 52 | 0.24% |
| 2 | Pure Sequence (Straight Run) Three consecutive cards of one suit. | 7♣ 8♣ 9♣ | 48 | 0.22% |
| 3 | Sequence (Run) Three consecutive cards, mixed suits. | 4♦ 5♠ 6♥ | 720 | 3.26% |
| 4 | Color (Flush) Three cards of one suit, not in sequence. | 2♥ 9♥ K♥ | 1,096 | 4.96% |
| 5 | Pair (Double) Two cards of the same rank. | Q♠ Q♦ 5♣ | 3,744 | 16.94% |
| 6 | High Card Anything that is none of the above. | A♣ 10♦ 6♠ | 16,440 | 74.39% |
Counts are straightforward combinatorics for one three-card hand from a full deck, with A-K-Q and A-2-3 both counted as sequences. Joker and wildcard variants change these numbers.
The Twist: Why a Run Beats a Flush
Players arriving from poker often expect a flush to beat a straight. In Teen Patti it is the other way round, and the table above shows why: with only three cards, there are 1,096 ways to make a Color but just 720 ways to make a Sequence. The rarer hand ranks higher, so a mixed-suit 4-5-6 beats an all-heart 2-9-K. Remember that one rule and you have avoided the most common misread in the game.
Pure Sequence and Trail are an even closer pair. A Pure Sequence is actually slightly rarer, yet nearly every version of the game ranks the Trail on top by tradition. Rankings are a convention as much as a calculation, which is why the table rules always have the final word.
Breaking Ties Within a Hand Type
When two players hold the same category, compare cards in this order:
- Trails — the higher rank wins. A-A-A beats K-K-K, down to 2-2-2 at the bottom.
- Sequences and Pure Sequences — the higher run wins. Where A-2-3 sits differs between rule sets (see the next section).
- Colors and High Cards — compare the highest card; if equal, the second; if still equal, the third.
- Pairs — the higher pair wins; if the pairs match, the odd card decides.
Suits do not normally rank in Teen Patti. If two hands match card for card, the table's rules screen explains how the pot is settled — check it once rather than assuming.
The A-2-3 Question
No ranking question causes more arguments. In many versions, A-K-Q is the top Sequence and A-2-3 is the second highest, placed just below it. Other versions put A-2-3 at the very top. Neither is “wrong”; they are house rules. Before you play for anything other than fun, open the rules screen at the table and look for this line. It takes ten seconds and settles the issue before it matters.
How Variants Change the Picture
Teen Patti has many popular variants, and several of them rewrite the rankings:
- Muflis (Lowball) — the rankings are reversed, so the weakest normal hand wins.
- Joker / Wild Card — one or more cards act as wild, making Trails and Sequences far more common than the table above suggests.
- AK47 and similar — specific ranks (here Ace, King, 4 and 7) become wild.
If you switch variants, re-read the rules first. A hand that is a winner in Classic can be a loser in Muflis.
What the Odds Mean at the Table
Three hands in four are just High Card. A Pair turns up roughly once in six deals. Everything above that is genuinely uncommon. Knowing this protects you from two errors: treating a modest Pair as unbeatable, and assuming that an opponent betting heavily must hold a Trail. It does not let you predict the next deal — every shuffle is independent — and no “system” sold online changes that.
Before You Sit Down
Learn the six hands, check the A-2-3 rule and the variant, and decide your stake limit before the first deal rather than during a hot or cold run. When you are ready, sign in from the Dhani Win login page and find the Teen Patti tables in the lobby. Real stakes mean real risk; keep play within money you would happily spend on any other evening out.
FAQ
What is the highest hand in Teen Patti?
A Trail (also called a Set or Trio) — three cards of the same rank. Three Aces is the best Trail, and three 2s the lowest.
Which is higher, a Sequence or a Color?
A Sequence (three consecutive cards of mixed suits) beats a Color (three cards of one suit that are not in sequence). A Pure Sequence, which is both, beats them both.
Is A-2-3 a high or low sequence?
It depends on the table rules. Many versions rank A-K-Q as the top sequence and A-2-3 just below it, while some treat A-2-3 as the highest. Check the rules screen of the table you join.
What happens if two players have the same hand type?
Compare the highest cards first, then the next, then the last. For pairs, the pair rank decides before the odd card. Suits do not normally break ties; if every card matches, the rules screen explains how that table settles it.
Does knowing the rankings help me win?
It helps you avoid mistakes, such as folding a strong hand or misreading a showdown. It does not change the deal, which is random, so it cannot guarantee results.
